Bringing Paterson Cub Scouts Back: A New Era of Growth and Leadership

After more than a decade, the Cub Scouts have returned to Paterson.  In 2025, Sayegh Civic led a a city-wide initiative to recruit boys from every neighborhood and school in Paterson, creating opportunities for children in Grades 1-4 (and growing) to explore and learn.

Engaging Families and Building Community

We hosted parent meetings to share the excitement and vision of the program, helping families understand the values and experiences Cub Scouts provide. Every meeting included refreshments to ensure our young scouts stayed nourished and energized.

Spring: Life Skills and Character Development

Our spring sessions focused on building life skills, leadership, and character, emphasizing core values like honoring family and demonstrating reverence. Activities included

  • Building a birdhouse
  • Learning multiple ways to tie knots
  • Assembling first aid kits
  • Cleaning up the Great Falls National Park
  • Family overnight at Camp NoBeBosCo:archery, woodworking, rocket building, leatherwork, fishing, raingutter regatta, BBs and more
  • Leading the Pledge of Allegiance and distributing flags during Paterson’s Memorial Day Ceremony

Additionally, we coordinated summer scholarships for scouts to attend Camp YawPaw in Mahwah, ensuring every boy had the opportunity to experience outdoor adventures and personal growth.

Looking Ahead: The Paterson Pinewood Derby

Our Cub Scouts are now gearing up for the first Paterson Pinewood Derby in nearly two decades! The Pinewood Derby is an exciting event where scouts design, build, and race their own small wooden cars, testing creativity, craftsmanship, and sportsmanship.
